Malaysia imported US$192.2 billion worth of goods from around the globe in 2019, up by 7.4% since 2015 but down by -4.4% from 2018 to 2019.

The value of Malaysia’s imported products increased at an annualized rate of 3.1% from 2015 until 2019. Year-over-year, imported goods declined by -4.4% from 2018 to 2019.

From a continental perspective, two-thirds (66.8%) of Malaysia’s total imports by value in 2019 were purchased from other Asian countries. Europe was the second-largest continent supplier at 13.5%, followed by North America at 10.1%. Smaller percentages came from Oceania (3.6%), Africa (3.5%), Latin America (excluding Mexico) (1.4%) and North Africa (0.7%).

Among Malaysia’s top imports, electrical machinery and equipment represents the fastest grower among the top 10 import categories, up by 16.4% from 2018 to 2019.
