Investment Shares Companies in Malaysia

An investment share company in Malaysia is a company that is licensed by the Securities Commission of Malaysia to operate as an investment holding company. Investment share companies are also known as unit trust companies. These companies are required to comply with the rules and regulations of the Securities Commission, as well as the Companies Act. Investment share companies must also have a minimum paid-up capital of RM5 million.

Investment share companies are allowed to invest in a wide range of securities, including shares, bonds, unit trusts, and money market instruments. They are also allowed to invest in real estate and venture capital. Investment share companies are not allowed to carry out business activities other than investing in securities.

Unit trust companies are required to appoint a trustee to hold the units of the trust fund on behalf of the unit holders. The trustee must be a licensed bank or a licensed insurance company. The trustee is responsible for the safekeeping of the units and for the distribution of the units to the unit holders in accordance with the trust deed.

Investment share companies are required to prepare and submit financial statements to the Securities Commission on a quarterly basis. These financial statements must be audited by an approved auditor.
