Iron Ore Mining Companies in Malaysia

Iron ore mining in Malaysia is done from the open cut mines in the state of Pahang, Johor, Perak and Kelantan. There are eight (8) major companies operating twelve (12) iron ore mines in Malaysia, with a production capacity of over 35 million tonnes of iron ore per year. The major companies are:

-Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad
-Johor Corporation
-Kerjaya Prospek Group Berhad
-MMC Corporation Berhad
-Perak Corporation Berhad
-Sarawak Corporation Berhad

These companies are joint venture partners with the Malaysian government, with each company owning between 20% and 50% of the mines. The government owns the remaining shares. The companies are responsible for the mining, processing and exporting of the iron ore, and they are also responsible for the environmental rehabilitation of the mines.

The iron ore mining industry in Malaysia has been growing significantly since the early 1990s, when the country was awarded the status of Developing Nation by the World Bank. The industry is a major contributor to the economy of Malaysia, accounting for
